Isn't this the best smile ever! Evan started preschool today. He was so excited. His eyes were wide when I showed him his brand new backpack with soccer balls on it. His teacher is Mrs. Beaty and he will go Wednesdays and Fridays for 4 hours. When I picked him up this afternoon, there were about 12 three year olds with shaving cream up to their elbows. They were "painting" the table with it! What fun...

I am sure all of you are wondering where we went... did I decide to boycott blogger? No, the answer is that I am a slacker. We have had a wonderful summer and I thought I'd share a few pictures to bring you up to speed.

My parents visited in June at the same time that my brother, Tim, and his family moved here from Hawaii. We were able to get family pictures taken, which was alot of fun.

Lots of outdoor fun... Evan loves the water, and Avery would prefer to watch. She's definitely a girl!

Summer Fun

Today was a beautiful day in Indianapolis... so we enjoyed a little summer fun. I took the kids and joined cousins Logan and Lexa, and friends Kinsen and Jaben at the sprinkler park. Evan absolutely loved it. He never stopped running, and was not scared a bit of the water. By then end, his lips were blue and he was shivering, but he was happy. I'm sure we'll be back there soon...

EllaAnne Zigler came to visit last week... (Laura, her mommy, came too!). Avery and her love to play, or look at each other, which seems to be synonomous at this age. It's so much fun to have a friend that has a baby the same age as Avery. Laura and I grew up together, and it's neat to think our kids will too! EllaAnne is only 6 weeks older than Avery...

Pig Tails

Miss Avery is 6 months old today... Her hair is now long enough to put in pig tails! She likes to get her hair done, and sits real still in her Bumbo chair. Those chairs are the greatest inventions ever. The big debate right now is whether or not to cut bangs on Avery and trim up her hair. What do you think?

Visiting Daddy at work

Since Daddy works alot of nights and weekends right now in residency, we like to go visit him for dinner sometimes. Evan's favorite thing to do while we're there is to talk on the phone... to Elmo, or Nana, Papa, or whoever will listen.

Avery is now rolling over, and getting up on her hands. She turned 5 months old on Feb 6th. They grow up so fast!

This was our first time having to shovel this winter, and Brendan had a great helper! Evan loves the snow, and didn't want to come in until Daddy was done.

Evan and I went to the Children's Museum here in Indianapolis last week. What a great place for a toddler to explore! That was the problem... Evan wanted to explore...on his own...without mommy! He is two and a half so I have to give him a break, but for some reason he likes to run away. And boy, is he quick. I definitely got my workout!

Goodbye, Grammy...

On Sunday, January 7th, my Grammy Horsman passed away... She was a very special lady, and a woman of God. There are many tears of sadness being shed as we say goodbye to her too soon. They are tears for us, not her. She is with Jesus...

Avery's 4 month weigh in...

Avery had her 4 month checkup with the doctor yesterday...she weighed in at 17.6 lbs! That is the 98th percentile...I don't think she has any problems eating. She is trying to challenge cousin Nathan's weight I believe. She is a growing little girl!

Cousins

Evan and Avery always have tons of fun when their cousins, Logan and Lexa, come over to play. This was the picture of the one brief moment when they were all still and sitting together. Lexa can always be found beside Avery as she is obsessed with her. She calls her "Avey".
We look forward to the days soon, when Evan and Avery can play with their other cousins, Lucas and Nathan. My brother and his family are currently living in Hawaii (poor souls!), but inform us that they are going to return to the mainland this summer. We look forward to building some great memories with them!

Christmas cookies

So every year I spend a day making Christmas cookies...tradition I guess. It just seems like something I should do to prepare for the season. I think I need to cook more in moderation as last week I emptied out my freezer of the "leftover cookies" from last Christmas. This year was more fun because I had an eager helper. Evan! However, he was more excited to eat the cookies, cooked or not cooked, than he was to make them. He kept saying, "Evan's star cookie!" He was particularly fond of the stars, and left the Christmas trees and gingerbread men to obtain their icing.

Merry Christmas Everyone!! Thanks to the Carpenters for taking these great Christmas pictures...not an easy feat to get a two year old and an infant to both cooperate at the same time. Evan had a blast playing with the Christmas tree is his jammies! We hope everyone enjoys the holiday season, cherishes family, makes memories, and remembers why we celebrate!

Avery and Evan had a great time trick-or-treating. Avery was a pumkin, and Evan was a doctor. Original!! Evan thought he could make the experience even better by trying to go inside everyone's house that we went to. He eventually got the concept and learned to say, "trick treat". Next year I will have to chase after two kids!!

Lobster, anyone?

We are in New Brunswick, Canada this week with my (Jennie's) family. Much overdue!! One of my favorite things to do when I am here is to eat lobster. Yesterday we bought some live ones and cooked them on the BBQ. This was Evan's first experience with them, and I don't think he really knew what to do!

First Dress

Avery wore her first dress today...we got all dressed up and went to church. She is almost 6 weeks old now, and is definitely more awake. She smiles at us, but we really have to work at it. She is such a joy and blessing in our lives. Evan loves his little sister, and says that she's "pretty" all the time. He loves to help and brings her pacifier and blanket when he thinks she needs it. Being a mom is the best job in the world!

Avery Grace LeRoy entered our world on Wednesday, Sept. 6th at 8:30am. She weighed 8lbs, 2 oz, and measured 19 3/4 inches long. We are all doing well, and are settling in at home. Avery is the most precious little girl (of course, we are a little bias!), and has made our family more complete!

Well, I have given in to the pressure. I guess I figure "why not?"... What better way to allow others to have a birds eye view of our family. We are growing by the minute (literally), and I want a way to document it all.
Evan is 23 months, and Avery is due to be born in 3 1/2 weeks. How can we miss this opportunity given to us by the world of technology.
I don't know how good I will be at this, but I guess that's what it's all about anyway...expressing yourself.
